But, because we were on autopilot and didn’t know what we were thinking, we ended up making poor choices that caused huge, unnecessary injuries and deaths.

The problem is that when we think about our actions, we actually believe we can make the right choice. So, when we don’t think about the consequences of our actions, we end up making the wrong choices. The solution is to focus less on what we want to do and more on the consequences of our actions. When we’re making the right choice, we won’t end up making the wrong choice.
